Modified Toti Technic for Dacryocystorhinostomy


Abstract
The modified dacryocystorhinostomy of Toti operation was done in 39 cases which were diagnosed of nasolacrimal duct stenosis at Dept. of Ophthalmology of Korea University and Capital Army Hospital, from April, 1974 to December, 1977.
Follow up study was done for 6 months after discharge from the hospital.
The results were as follows;
1. The most frequent cause of dacryostenosis were recurrent dacryocystitis (25 cases). The other were facial trauma (2 cases) and maxillary sinus operation (2 cases).
2. The duration of dacryostenosis was 1 to 2 years in majority cases (10 out of 39). The longest duration was 24 years.
3. The ratio of sex (M: F) is about 1 : 2, in 35 patients, unilateral cases were 31 and bilateral cases were 4. Majority patients were ketween 20 to 40 years old (17 Fatients) and the oldest was 68 years old.
4. Success rate by this method was 97.4% (exellent was 92.3%-36 cases, gcod was 5.1%-2 cases) and poor result was 2.6%-1 case.
